Ehuru is a highly aromatic cooking spice with a unique taste. It’s taste and smell is similar to nutmeg, however Ehuru is slightly more tart, but some use it as a direct replacement. Ehuru powder is used in stews, soups, cakes, and desserts. It is also consumed for medicinal purposes and used as an insect repellent. The seeds are also made into necklaces. Other names include calabash nutmeg, Jamaican nutmeg, African nutmeg, ariwo, awerewa, ehiri, airama and African orchid nutmeg.
